#BlackOnCampus – The Penn State Narrative

With the recent events happening on campus at the University of Missouri, college students nationwide are sharing their experiences of being black on predominately white campuses, and Penn State is no exception.

People across the country have tweeted their personal narratives of being black at predominately white institutions in response to the activist efforts at the University of Missouri. These stories are filled with memories of feeling unwanted, being seen as a threat, and even being threatened, with no police protection:

Robin Hoecker, a student that attended Penn State during the tumultuous year that was 2001, recounted what she witnessed at Penn State via Twitter:

[Editor’s Note: Hoecker wrote her senior thesis on the history of black student protests at Penn State. You can read the document in full here.]
