Music filled the air Thursday night as more than two hundred students packed Heritage Hall for the Seventh Annual Ashe Awards, ending  Ashe week with a bang.

The awards show, put on every year by Black Caucus honors students from the Penn State community through humorous superlatives such as “Best Smile”, “Most Likely to Be on Reality TV”, and “Best School Spirit”, as well as service awards such as “Best Student Organization Program” and “Server of the Community.”

Between the award presentations and acceptance speeches, Justin “DJ Da Bol Jus” Augustine kept the crowd electric playing a variety of popular songs that much of the audience danced and sang along to.

Student clubs on campus such as the Caribbean Student Association, RAM Squad, and Ambitions performed during the award show as well as a group performance by the multi-cultural and black Greeks.

For those watching, it was definitely an inspirational night. Tonight was Daje Johnson’s (sophomore – secondary education) first time attending the awards and she was blown away by the event.

“It’s so great to see the black community come out to this event. Things like this are so important,” Johnson commented.
