On Friday, Penn State’s Latino Caucus held its first annual “Nosotros Somos Familia” event. With the meaning “We are Family”, this event served as a cultural celebration of the various Latino cultures at Penn State.
With the hosts dressed to the nines, the evening started off by taking those in attendance through the different countries that would have performances that night. From Brazil to Spain, the Dominican Republic to Puerto Rico, the night was full of music, fun and food. There were singers, dance routines, spoken word pieces and finally the strolls from the Latino fraternities and sororities.
Halfway through the evening, there was an intermission for food, which needless to say, was delicious! There were plantains, rice and beans, various types of chicken dishes, all of which gave a very authentic cultural experience for the guests. Throughout the night, the DJ made sure he had the best music for the moment playing every chance he had.
All in all, if you didn’t get the opportunity to make it to the sold out event, be sure you come in the future. It was a great way to not only mingle with new people but also have a mind blowing cultural experience you can’t find anywhere else on campus!
