The Underground Staff was made aware of disheartening and unethical conduct occurring in both the current University Park Undergraduate Association assembly as well as the the current candidates for the 11th assembly. The Underground was given printed documents from a source wishing to remain anonymous that appears to be screenshots from the Divy Agnihotri and Megan Fleming presidential campaign regarding conversation that goes against the standards that must be honored as a student representative.
UPUA prides itself on the goal to improve all facets of student life at Penn State through representation at the highest levels. In the documents below, there is a clear violation of disregard to election codes and possible evidence regarding pre-campaigning, defamation, intent to deceive and conspiracy within the current assembly.
As an independent student-run media platform, we feel it is our obligation to let the student body know that this misconduct is occurring and should not be tolerated. While the screenshots provided are solely from conversations within the Divy-Fleming campaign, it is evident that there is a toxic atmosphere on both sides and throughout our governing body. We strongly urge UPUA to examine the current structure of the organization as well as review the current election codes and address the possible violations found in this document. We condemn the actions that multiple student leaders on campus have participated in and demand that this behavior not be accepted.
The Underground seeks to expose the untold stories within the Penn State community while promoting community involvement and open discussion. As student leaders within the Penn State community, it is our obligation to share this with our peers as they evaluate the candidates for the upcoming election.
