The poetry slam is a preview of the College Union Poetry Slam Invitational (CUPSI) presented by the Association of College Unions International (ACUI), an annual collegiate slam poetry tournament taking place this April at the University of Austin, TX.

Although Penn State is an active member of ACUI, this is the first year the the university will be represented at the invitational.

Penn State will be represented at CUPSI through Penn State’s top five slam poetry performers: David Gaines, Abby Kennedy, Davon Clark, Rabiyatu Jalloh and Ka’lee Strawbridge-Moten.

The slam is sponsored by Penn State Writers Organized to Represent Diverse Stories (W.O.R.D.S.), an organization that exists as a forum for students at Penn State to share their personal stories in a space that encourages community and self-love.

State Slam will be hosted by Tariq Lunthun, CUPSI 2013 finalists coach and will be free and open to the public. The event will be held in 101 Thomas Building from 7:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.
