Chicago born Cecil Blutcher is a champion for creative expression. Whether it’s on the court as a 3-sport high school athlete, singing in the concert choir or excelling in Bradley University’s Theater Department, Blutcher is always looking to reach new heights.
A current student in Penn State’s graduate acting program, Blutcher is now turning his creativity to music, and he plans to release HIGHerEd on Tuesday, his newest mixtape that is two years in the making.
“I’ve always been musically inclined. I’ve been in choir since I was like seven, I’ve always been singing, I’ve always written poetry since I was very young and I’ve always been a fan of hip-hop,” Blutcher said. “Those three spheres were always going around through my head, and why they never linked, I don’t know, but one day it just hit me: ‘wow, I can do all of these things’.”
Blutcher wants to use his voice to channel the human experience and liberate listeners from the chains of mental slavery, regardless of background.
For Blutcher, his album serves as a gateway into the music world. “It’s my introduction, it’s my thesis. Everyone has their graduate thesis and this is mine. Since I’m a performing arts major, it’s not in paper form, it’s in lyrical form.”
Every aspect of this musical venture, including its corresponding visuals, will be 100% free in order to ensure that everyone who wants to support has access to the work. If you would like to donate to the cause, you can do so here.
The #HIGHerED mixtape is available March 29, 2016.
